    The Status of Medicare

    1.45% of the 7.65% Payroll Tax, paid by both, employer and employee, is credited to Medicare. Effective 2013, the Affordable Care Act added an additional 0.9% Medicare tax on wages over $200,000 ($250,000 if married).
