The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is going to have a big say in who represents you in Congress next year. How big? Well, the corporate lobby group has a goal of spending $75 million on the midterm elections in some of the country’s most competitive races. The vast majority of its money will go toward helping Republican candidates who have pledged to roll back the reforms passed this year in Congress.

Some of that money may or may not be coming from foreign corporations — a possibility raised this week by Think Progress, the blog run by the Center for American Progress. Who’s to say how much of the money behind the Chamber’s ads  is coming from foreign corporations because the Federal Election Commission is not forcing the Chamber and other outside groups to disclose their donors.

Public Citizen President Robert Weissman said the Chamber “is hijacking our democracy and they are mocking all of us.” Weissman spoke at a Moveon.org rally Thursday in front of the Chamber’s Washington, D.C. headquarters. He said the Chamber’s political spending hammers home the need for a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission ruling, which opened the door for unlimited corporate spending on elections.

    Oh nonsense, it is the corrupt political machine of the socialist cum fascist Democrats Party, including their propaganda arm in the MSM, that is attempt’s to hijack our election, as the so often have successfully done in the past. Stop lying.

    The Chamber of Commerce is just exercising their rights as any other group of citizens might. The average members of the Chamber of Commerce are small and medium size businesses in small and medium sized towns across the nation: You are exercised about a group people who in great part happen run hardware stores, small computer systems consultancies and floral shops. They have every right to engage in the political process. It is absurd–not to mention dishonest–to claim otherwise. Just because they do not agree with your agenda–and in this case have a modicum of common sense and engagement with the world as it actually is–does not mean that they are trying to “hijack anything”. Your position is nothing but slander and electioneering propaganda.

    How is it that a bunch of communists bought a payed for by the likes of Soros is some how “protecting us from evil corporations” and anyone who stands up to it is a part of some “evil business conspiracy”?

    Stop pushing out this 1930, COMINTERN style propaganda about “rich capitalists robber barons” running around with diamond tie studs and spats.

    You are projecting. You people are shills for international socialist and communists. You harm you nation. You harm your civilization.

    I have new for you. SOMEONE actually has to go out, work hard and create wealth for you to have your parasitic, faux-atriso lifestyles.

    Business is not the problem, and, in so much as they are not Democrat political insiders like most of the crooks on Wall Street, they are large part of the solution.

    It is collectivism projected through am tyrannical and all powerful state that is the problem.

  • Please use a dictionary and look up the word “fascist.” Other than that, you’re pretty misinformed on the nature of the Chamber. Do you really think the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is interested in the mom-and-pop stores on Main Street? I can’t even debate you if you’re just going to make stuff up.

    hattip, you are so far off base it is alarming. First it’s not the fact that the COC is spending money on UNITED STATES campaigns, THEY ARE SPENDING FOREIGN MONEY!!!!

  • The new BOP/TeaParty motto;

    America–4 sale to the highest bidder.

  • H.D. Cole

    Lets not forget who gave the COC there big gift. Justice Roberts and his Five Buddies sold this country to the HIGHEST bidder.

  • Kathleen Cullen

    The devious activity of the COC during the midterm election has been an atrocity. We NEED transparent Campaign Finance reform now to stop the corruption in elections!
