If anyone knows the dangers of plastic, it’s reality TV star Heidi Montag who never met a credit cred or cosmetic surgery procedure she didn’t like. But paying for those implants, injections and tucks can be distressing because “with hidden fees and standard interest rate increases, that $11,000 jawline can end up costing you an upwards of $50,000,” Montag deadpans in a video she made for our partners at Americans for Financial Reform.
The answer, as even Heidi knows, is the creation of a strong, independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency. Now’s the time to call your senators and let them know that you’re fed up with abusive banking practices. Wall Street lobbyists are working hard to kill financial reform (Click here to take action).

I just looked at my CC statement on line and my interest just went up from 11.9% to 23.9%! I did not even receive a notice. Also I have made every payment on time and more than minimum balance. They were already making good money on me. HELP! This is robbery!!!

The credit scoring system is geared to reward those who stay in debt, and punish those who can pay cash or who simply do not buy what they can’t pay cash for. When the new laws were about to go into effect our credit card co’s also jacked up rates; we also have excellent credit and pmt history. They also added exhorbitant annual fees. The credit scoring system is so abused it will soon become meaningless. I’m planning for the day when I can close all my accounts.

Another government agency is not what is needed. Some self-control, discipline and personal responsibility would make more sense. Just because there are people out there like this woman who cannot, or will not, take responsibility for her own voluntary actions does not mean that responsible taxpayers should foot the bill to save her from herself.
