I think everyone should have a watch of the great documentary "What Would Jesus Buy?" over the holiday. The story of Rev. Billy in New York City, his Church of the Shop-acalypse and the "Stop Shopping Singers" church choir and their nationwide tour from New York City to Walmart's corpoate HQ in Arkansas to a concert in Downtown Disneyland on Christmas Day.

It's funny, it's informative, and Really makes you think. Produced by the guy who made 30 Days and Supersize Me, Morgan Spurlock.

Maybe instead of buying extra things this year we can't afford from giant corporations to pad their stock price, we can buy locally from sustainable, small businesses and ACTUALLY stimulate the economy? I like what Ralph Waldo Emerson said so long ago: "Rings and other jewels are not gifts, but apologies for gifts. The only gift is a portion of thyself." Considering he begins his essay "Gifts" with the statement that society is in a state of bankruptcy, it may do us all well to have a quick read: http://emerson.classicauthors.net/GiftsAnEssay/
