Dan Roe, I'm sorry you live in pain every day as so many Americans do. However, you would be hard pressed to reside in the U.S. without receiving benefit from government/taxpayer-supported programs and services. Have you ever traversed the roads or sidewalks in this nation? Visited a local, state, or national park? Called upon the police or fire department for aid? Entered a library? Were you or your children educated in any public schools? Did your parents or do you receive Social Security benefits and/or use the Medicare system to pay for health care? The government is very much with us. Its purpose is to accomplish things that we agree need to be done but we cannot do as individuals. If the government were to become the sole entity administering payments for health care, you would continue to have the right to refuse medical care.

I am a folk musician/singer/songwriter activist for affordable healthcare. The answer is HR-676. I don't see how anybody can disagree, especially the Christians. Calling for single-payer doesn't make anybody non-Republican. Many say "that is socialized medicine!" Correction, it is socialized insurance. I like what Michael Moore said "Christianized medicine."

We have a "Government for sale" rig.

"How much is Max Baucus in the Senate,
I hear 'bout the lobbiest's tales
How much is Max Baucus in the Senate,
I do know our gov' is for sale."

Tributing to the men who were arrested for interupting the Senate hearing:

"We have 13 brave soldiers, in this movement for a single-payer.
They seek healthcare justice, it's because they care.
these men were arrested, for things they knew were right,
may serve time, pay heavy fines, for our well being they fight.

1> Israel in oppression, because of Philistines,
a huge man named Goliath, he made an awful scene,
David called upon God, shot Goliath with his sling,
let us move like David, Affordable Healthcare let's bring.

It's not like national health care is a new wheel. They have it in the developed countries around the world. They are Social Democracies.

Before the WTO forced them into their organization Sweds were the healthist and happiest of countries. They were a Social Democracy.

The best system is what we need and get. Don't put labels on it. Corruptions runs rampant in our health system is all I know. The insurance companies make huge profits on your and your families health. Is profiteering on people's health OK?

Folks, don't believe this BS! The BEST thing for the PEOPLE of this country is SINGLE PAYER. There are several was to pay for it an in fact it could save the "average" family $12,000.

It seems like the worst thing for Insurance companies, millionaire and others with power and money! They are the ones behind the "swift boat" campaign against Health Care IMPROVEMENT. The super rich will always have the best of everything. Their greed prevents most of them from wanting to help people.

Most of the Free Industrial world has single payer. IRAQ has single payer! Why should we? Why do we pay the highest prices for drugs that are made here?

We should have a BETTER standard than Mexico, Iraq and countless others.......

Wake up America!

I am maybe just an ill informed moron who speaks from the heart but..... We are "supposedly" the richest nation in the world. Why are we the only one without a national health care system?. My father always told me follow the money and you will find out.

Insuring everybody and doing prevention on diabetes, heart disease, TB, and problems in pregnancy would save us all money! Fewer people in the emergency room, fewer infant deaths, fewer contagious people running around.

Plus, less stress on people. So many of us are one catastrophic disease away from bankruptcy. We would have fewer people feeling like cast-offs and throwaways. They would feel cared-for. We all do better when everyone does well.

I'm in a good place with my health care, but a family who works for me is not, and diabetes runs in the family. Miguel (yes, he is legal) was such a hard worker till his diabetes got bad. He couldn't afford the monthly drug costs, so he went without. He passed out twice, getting a bad concussion both times. It was very expensive for Medicaid to treat him. Now, he's on dialysis. All these are complications from diabetes. The point is, he is not that old, he enjoyed working, and used to be able to pay taxes. Now, because of our screwy system, he's a drag on the rest of us.

Dan, the right to die is not in the constitution, but you have a right to die without making health insurance any more money than they're already making.
I agree a lot of people run to the doctor without a need to. I suspect you don't. Me neither. I've got insurance from my employer but as a matter of conscience I don't until absolutely necessary.

To Dan Roe,

I think we are more "on the same page" than we are at "counterpoints". Lets consider the following:
"I also have the right to die without making those in the health care profession rich." A nice thought, but folks in the profession are getting rich right now, by milking the CURRENT system, while good and conscientious physicians are under-paid (and harried) because the won't engage in such deception.

"The way I look at it, the sooner I die the sooner I can get some rest....I just don’t believe in spending vast amounts of money to prolong life." Dan, I think most of us fell the same way, whether-or-not we have insurance currently.

"I do live in pain everyday, but that is my choice.
I have better things to do than go to a Doctor that is going to get rich from my pain." Me too Dan, and like you, I currently have pretty good insurance (which costs me a small fortune", and I too only go to the doctor judiciously.
The idea that if we had universal coverage, the poor would "run to the doctor with hang-nails " is just a scare tactic. Most folks have better things to do. Most hypochondriacs HAVE insurance, and already "run to the doc".

"If folks quit running to the Doctor, it would bring the cost down to where all working folks could afford it." Most uninsured folks STAY AWAY from the doctor because they can't afford it (check with your own doctor to see what his rates are for the uninsured...it will be higher than what he/she charges insurance companies). The "real problem" is that uninsured folks far too often try to "ride-it-out", rather than seeking medical help.

They wait too long....until a small problem which could have been easily treated becomes a hughe and life-threatening problem, and when they can take it no longer, an ambulance takes them to the Emergency Room. That sort of thing REALLY drives up our shared costs.

Our people as a whole are compassionate and responsible, and try to do the right thing. Minimal access to health care for all people is the "right thing". Just as Social Security was back in the 1930s. Health Care's time has come, and we should work together to create a system that is more fair and more compassionate. You will ALWAYS be able to buy private health insurance to get treatments for yourself that a public plan might not offer.
