However, you would be hard pressed to reside in the U.S. without receiving benefit from government/taxpayer-supported programs and services. Have you ever traversed the roads or sidewalks in this nation? Visited a local, state, or national park? Called upon the police or fire department for aid? Entered a library? Were you or your children educated in any public schools? Did your parents or do you receive Social Security benefits and/or use the Medicare system to pay for health care? The government is very much with us. Its purpose is to accomplish things that we agree need to be done but we cannot do as individuals. If the government were to become the sole entity administering payments for health care, you would continue to have the right to refuse medical care. They have it in the developed countries around the world. They are Social Democracies. Before the WTO forced them into their organization Sweds were the healthist and happiest of countries. They were a Social Democracy. The best system is what we need and get. Don't put labels on it. Corruptions runs rampant in our health system is all I know. Fewer people in the emergency room, fewer infant deaths, fewer contagious people running around. Plus, less stress on people. So many of us are one catastrophic disease away from bankruptcy. We would have fewer people feeling like cast-offs and throwaways. They would feel cared-for. We all do better when everyone does well. I'm in a good place with my health care, but a family who works for me is not, and diabetes runs in the family. Miguel (yes, he is legal) was such a hard worker till his diabetes got bad. He couldn't afford the monthly drug costs, so he went without. He passed out twice, getting a bad concussion both times. It was very expensive for Medicaid to treat him. Now, he's on dialysis. All these are complications from diabetes. The point is, he is not that old, he enjoyed working, and used to be able to pay taxes.
