A few weeks ago, I nominated the law mega-firm Jones Day for an award for the most abusive trademark claim brought to suppress speech they don’t like. Today’s post concerns another abusive trademark claim that might rival Jones Day’s except for the fact that its progenitor, John W. Dozier, Jr., already has such a reputation for abusive intellectual property claims that few will find his new stunt surprising. Dozier has received perhaps his greatest recognition for his claim that the posting of cease and desist letters infringes the author’s copyright; other notorious Dozier-isms have been discussed on this blog here and here.

The U.S. Senate had the opportunity this week to listen to the American people and craft a financial bailout package that would have provided meaningful relief, not only to our ailing financial institutions, but to taxpayers and homeowners who are suffering, in a large part, because of the greed of those very same institutions. Unfortunately, senators didn’t seem to get the message.

This is our new video on the bailout. As we’ve been saying, Congress must put consumers first in whatever legislation they pass. This bailout should not be an opportunity for big business and lobbyists to make even more money at the American taxpayer’s expense. Take a moment to write Congress and tell them that you deserve a better bailout bill.
