Mr. Teller is something else! He doesn't have much education or he could spell better and would know more about the environment than he does.
He really scares me when he starts talking about killing!
The Muslim extremists aren't the only terrorists we have to
look out for; they are right in our own population! I just hope that President Obama can accomplish all the things he wants to do, and I for one will do anything I can do to support him.
(Mydaughter just warned me that he may try to find me and kill me. I hope that will not be possible.. I have many things that I hope to accomplish before I leave this world, no. 1 being to open an emergency shelter for abused and neglected children, so I will be busy for several years.) Any one out there want to help?

Oil and gas are FINITE resources. With China, India, and Brazil rapidly expanding their economies, oil and gas will become less and less available. Sooner than we think the world will be without. We have NO choice but to limit our use. We can do this by conservation and alternative energy sources. The direct result: more fuelish vehicles, less energy consumption, and increased interest in alternative energy sources!

7. I am very frustrated with the Oil Companies. I believe it is time to get off our buns and start making new energy that will not polute our planet. Atomic Energy scares me. I do not believe it is the answer. What we have with that kind of energy is more polution and no good way to dispose of the waste. Burying it in the earth is not an answer because it never dies and will ruin our planet and the future of our children and grandchildren. There has to be new clean energy or we are in trouble. We must put a fire under Congress and get them moving on this important energy problem.

I hear influential voices on talk radio promoting nuclear power as the answer to our energy problems. I would like to hear knowlegible voices refute these proposals for environmental reasons, so the public can hear both sides.

I believe the only sensible answer to the problem we have is to take away the subsidies from the oil companies and
invest it in solar and wind power sources. Why not use what
is available and right under our noses?
It would also put a lot of out of work Americans back to
taking care of their families and bills. It seems like a good
answer to me.
I realize that some work needs to be done to keep down the prices until the technology is refined but we aren't stupid, and from what I have been reading, NASA is using
solar power on a space vehicle for several years now and
Europe is also ahead of us in developing this too. I just don't get why we aren't putting forth efforts to do the obvious! Thank you . Sincerely, Dora Sitton

As the former manager of Pride Refining's Diamond Shamrock distributorship in San Angelo, TX I am aware that diesel is the cheapest of all fuels to refine. Diesel is a distillate product whille gasoline is a blended product requiring complex refining processes to produce as much gasoline as possible out of a barrell of crude oil.

The industry's excuses for diesel being $.90 over gasoline at the pump are twofold: 1) scarcity, and 2) the added cost of "scrubbing" or removing the sulfur content of diesel.

In regards to scarcity, we have not even approached the scarcity of "marketable" diesel we experienced during "Desert Storm" when a gallon of diesel, for the first time in the US, was $.10 over the cost of a gallon of unleaded gasoline on the street.

In regards to "scrubbing" many refinerys do not even process "sour" crude (crude with a high sulfur content), and the industry's own analysts say that the actual cost of scrubbing is only $.04 to $.07 per gallon.

Because the cost of diesel, more than gasoline, impacts the overall economy, we need to take emergency action now. We have used profit caps in the past during shortages. I believe the only way to address the runaway greed in the refining and petroleum product marketing industry is with profit caps and public auditing of the industry.

This Congress has done nothing for the people. It might as well be a Republican Congress, having rubber-stamped nearly ALL of Bush's pet requests.
If it is up to us to press for what we need or want, then let's stop talking & get started.
We can continue to nag the senators until we get a large enough majority to counter Bush's veto. Senators are paying gas prices, too, and the same gouging to heat their homes. They also have families - maybe sons & daughters who are married and struggling with the same expenses. First, we can throw out oil subsidies, then apply windfall taxes on their profits.
WE are the taxpayers. If we spend ALL our money on oil, we have nothing left for taxes, so the gov't itself will have to impose taxes on them.
Finally, get tough on fraud sentencing. Politics are famous for fraud & extortion.
If we have to put up with a Congress like this one, we might as well NOT HAVE ANY! Hey, that's the best idea yet!

I personally have no problem with canceling the breaks oil companies get and stopping exchange traders, but that part about investing the proceeds in, "fund alternative energy sources and subsidize efforts by American families to reduce their energy consumption", is straight from the outhouse. Even if you could fund alternative energy, what do you expect, to solve the crisis with the year? That's like the old joke about NASA, which holds that if you get 9 women pregnant, you can have a baby in a month.

All you are going to manage is to increase the price of oil to the consumer, i.e. ME. You can't pull the wool over my eyes that easily.

And hybrids and increased fuel efficiency are just bandaids. You don't cure heroin addiction my reducing the dose.

What we need is a Strategetic Initiative to research and bring hydrogen fuel cells to market, or some other technology to power our vehicles which does not rely on oil. Instead of playing politics as usual, when are Congress and lobbyists going to take the COMSUMER'S side, instead of trying to sabotage us?
