I’m sure there’s more to come on how Environmental Protection Agency chief Stephen Johnson and the Bush administration have conspired to ignore a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that told the EPA to start doing something about greenhouse gas emissions. There’s enough evidence already to call for Johnson’s firing. Paul Kiel writes about Johnson on the TPMMuckraker as does Richard Simon in the L.A. Times. As of today, Public Citizen is calling for Johnson’s dismissal.

Write Congress and tell your representatives that it’s time for Johnson to go.

metzenbaumx200.jpgAmerican consumers lost one of their great champions Wednesday night when former Ohio Sen. Howard Metzenbaum died at his Florida home. As the Associated Press describes him, “He was a cantankerous firebrand who didn’t need a microphone to hold a full auditorium spellbound while dropping rhetorical bombs on big oil companies, the insurance industry, savings and loans, and the National Rifle Association, to name just a few favorite targets.” Sen. Metzenbaum was also a member of Public Citizen’s board of directors.

The victim this time is Teamsters for a Democratic Union, which put articles on its web site and in its newspaper that portrayed Teamster President James Hoffa as the Grinch.
